our story

WHERE WE STARTED

Betty Rae’s began scooping out of Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood in 2015, serving up 26 flavors of handcrafted ice cream under the vision and direction of its creators, David Friesen and Mary Nguyen. A few short years later an ice cream truck was added to the fleet and a second location was opened in the River Market neighborhood of Kansas City.

WHERE WE ARE

Now under the stewardship of a scooper-turned-owner, Betty Rae’s continues to serve 26 housemade flavors offering crafted classics, like Vanilla Bean and Chocolate, to fun and collaborative seasonal flavors like our Joe’s KC BBQ & Burnt Ends (yes, there is real meat!). We also serve homemade waffle cones, ice cream sandwiches, decadent sundaes, and boozy shakes.

OUR MISSION

While serving delicious, house-made ice cream is our specialty it is our core desire to serve our team, customers, and communities in ways that are uncommon and unexpected for small businesses.

Each year Betty Rae’s dedicates and donates 10% of its profits to local, national, and international organizations, charities, and individuals seeking to advance and serve their communities. We truly believe we are and want to be more than just ice cream.
